The team boasted a record of 75 wins and 11 losses during the period from 1950 to 1952, and we were champions of the 6th Fleet and played, in addition to any ship that fielded a team, such notables as the University of Barcelona, The "National" team of Venice, and teams from Athens, and other countries we visited. Three stand out players, "Red" Ruddy, Bob Guinnessy, and Tom Gallagher, finished their enlistments and entered University of Connecticut on basketball scholarships. |
