A message from John Noll,
President of the USS Newport News Museum Association
We started the museum project back in June 2000. Since then, we have
received support from many of former crewmembers, their families and
corporate donors. We have put a good deal of time and sweat into the
project and are happy with where we are today. But more is needed. The
museum still has to complete the Captain's Corner, and 2nd and 6th fleet
displays. We also need to keep the museum in good working order, repair
electrical and equipment problems, replace lights, clean and paint etc.
We also have to maintain Turret 2, Mount 51 and Mount 33, as well as the
admiral's cabin aft of 51. We always need volunteers to do the work,
but they need the supplies to get it done, and keep the Newport
News museum as a shining legacy for all of our shipmates that have
sailed on her.
