Newport News Crew
My name is Ken Bolen I own a display model company
called Miniature Dream Models Inc. We specialize in building models of
U.S. Navy vessels that served during the Vietnam War. We have built
around 600 PBR MK-1s, PBR MK-2s and SWIFT BOATS and have offered them
at a sizable discount to the members of those veteran associations. Our
models come completely assembled and are display ready.
Our current model project is the 1962 version of the USS Newport
News CA-148.
The model will have the following features:
- The scale for the 47 inch model is 1:183, the scale for the 33.5
inch model is 1:256
- Larger model is 47 inches long x 4 Ύ inches wide x 14 inches
high (from the base)
- The smaller model is 33.5 inches long x 3 9/16 inches wide
- Materials used: The model is constructed of hard woods using
plank on frame construction.
Most of the small parts are diecast metal with some being diecast resin.
Main deck is natural wood plank.
- Model comes with wood display stand.
- Model comes with brass tone name plate.
All models are scratch build from raw materials and custom built for
each Newport News Association member.

- Is a deposit required?
Yes, a 50 percent deposit of $179.50 for the 47-inch model and $148.00
deposit for the 33.5 inch model will be required. However, your credit
card will NOT be charged until the construction of your model begins.
- How do I pay the deposit?
We accept Master Card, Visa, Money Order and Personal Check
- Can I change my mind before or even after my model arrives?
Yes, for whatever reason one can cancel the order and receive a full
refund.
- Can I pay by check rather than a credit card?
Yes, personal checks are fine and the same refund policy applies for
checks, as do credit cards.
- When can I expect my model to be delivered?
Please allow five months build time.
- I served on the ship before the 1962 refit. Will a model of the
ship be available at a later date? ...
Yes, if there is enough interest in the pre-1962 version we will build
that model.
