The purpose of our mailing list is to share e-mails that are 
related to the USS Newport News CA-148. 

This includes memories of our time aboard her, asking question of other members about NN related subjects, telling sea stories and basically, any subject related to our ship or the navy life. Please read the "Do's and Don'ts" below to understand the goals of our mailing list before sending your email.

Mailing List Guidelines

The Do's and Don'ts of the mailing list.

Over time, we have found what works and what does not work for this group of old sailors. The below "Mailing List Rules" have been set up to make the majority of the list happy.   

Most of our members do not want a lot of mail coming to them. Most of our members are not the type that normally join a Mailing List. They are ONLY Interested in information about the USS Newport News.

This mailing list is NOT for general Chit-chat. This list is NOT for telling everyone your opinions on Politics, religion, or any subject other than USS NEWPORT NEWS.

The Do's

• Do send email about memories. This is fun because it strikes up a general conversation that others can respond to.

• Do ask questions about the USS Newport News.

• Do send your opinions about life aboard the USS Newport News.

• Do send information about the USS Newport News Reunion and Get-to-gathers.

• Do enjoy your visits with other Shipmates! (That's an order, sailor!)

The Don't do's

• Don't send email that is not on the subject of the USS Newport News. This Includes politics, religion, sexual preferences, Jokes, Virus Warnings, Get Rich Quick Email, Etc. This is a "Specialty mailing List", Not a Chat Room.
  

• Don't Do General Tests. Seems to irritate a lot of our List members. If you really want to test the email list, think of something to say that is worth reading.
  

• Don't Do personal Chit Chat, If you want to send a personal e-mail to one of your old Shipmates, send it to his address, NOT to the whole list! This E-Mail list is for subjects related to of interest to all (at least most) members.
  

• Don't Send Large Pictures, Many of our members have old computers running at slow baud rates. Sending Pictures to the whole list causes great aggravations to many list members. I have a "Size block" on the mailing list that will not except any email over the size of 40K. This allows for Long worded email, small graphics but not large pictures.

Minor fractions of the guidelines are overlooked. The guidelines are made to avoid pissing a lot of the members off. If you decide to ignore the guidelines, and start getting other list member angry at you, we will remove you from the mailing list.
