My first sea duty.  Started in 3rd Deck Division and then worked in the Operations Office and advanced to YN3.  Although I didn't especially enjoy the deck force; I did appreciate the experiences and the learning about seamanship.  Went to work in the Operations Office and advanced to YN3.  CDR Gills was the Operations Officer (great man).  Made many friends on the deck force and operations department.  After serving over 20 yrs. retired as a YNC.  After ending my career in the U.S. Navy received a BS in Accounting and worked in health care accounting and self employment.  Presently permanently retired and enjoying life.  Would like to hear from any shipmates with whom I served.

The years have passed with lots of thoughts about my days aboard the 148. Every once in a wile I open my old ship books to see the memories of great times. Just the other day I was telling a friend about the days on smoke watch and running the incinerator on the News. I remember the day we escorted a submarine that was on voyage, and launched a V2 rocket. I remember the day we pulled into the port of FortLauderdale for a visit, the Captain had to dig his owen birth to tie up at a pier.(No Tugs)I have missed the times we had, I cherish the memories of you guys and our Officers. I still have family in Chicago, Ill/Tampa, Florida/ Littlerok, AR/Eureka Springs, AR/ and Springdale, AR. I'm in to trout fishing, and I plan to retire some time in the future. I'm good at using "D" on emails that don't have some sign. Include 148 on any emails.
