Looking forward to seeing many of

A Message from Al Siegel
Our museum is looking better each day, and although we still need
funds to complete the job, what we have done so far will make you all
proud.
We have some new pictures on the web site that were taken recently by
museum director Bob Freeman. They show just how much progress
has been made, particularly paying attention to our memorabilia and
the 5 fully clothed mannequins that we have on display. ALL of
our items are authenticated Newport News memorabilia, donated by our
fellow shipmates and their families.
Included are items from our great fleet marines, and we have a
mannequin fully decked out in dress blues, submitted by one of them.
We will be holding a working party, March 8th, on board the USS Salem.
All of you are invited to come and help, and be a part of this great
project. We will be putting the finishing touches on the museum and
will start a major cleanup of T2. In addition we will help out
our USS Salem brothers with some of their projects.
The museum itself in berthing compartment B308L has been built out
with display cases and protective Plexiglas wall display areas.
The room is filled with items and photographs, and we are in the
process finalizing the layout and design.
So do what you can to make it up next March, or anytime you are in the
area. It is well worth the visit. For those that attend,
free bunks are available on the Salem, although head facilities are
limited and there is no food service on board. Also, we have received
very good rates from the nearby Quincy Marriott.
If you are interested in joining the work party, help us get ready for
you by filling out the "USS NN Work Party" form located at
http://www.uss-newport-news.com/salem/workpartyform_museum.htm
Best regards.
